As soon as we arrived we were greeted to by tractors waiting to tow us onto the lorry park. I had never seen mud like it in all the years I have evented, Huge thanks to the guys for being so efficient and friendly!
The show jumping ground was very good considering the conditions, they had moved all the fences to new turf which was great. Lady went in a jumped a super clear giving us both lots of confidence going into the cross country. I had walked the course and felt it was a great first run for Lady, and it wasn't long before we set off out the start box. She jumped the first 5 fences perfectly, and I could tell she was always looking for the next fence and really enjoying herself. As we jumped fence 5 exuberantly, I gave her a quick woah to steady her for the next fence which was a drop down followed by a jump back out. Unfortunately Lady slipped in-between these two fences losing her back end and her rider in the process. BANG went the air jacket but Lady just stayed patiently next to me. I was told I could remount and carry on with the fall happening in-between fences no penalties would be added, so I quickly took of my air jacket and as I was about to remount, was told I had to wait to be checked over by the doctor before I could continue. What felt like ages the doctor finally came and asked me a few questions including if I knew my name! I knew I was absolutely fine so jumped back on and we were aloud to continue at last! She was a bit nervous going down the drop but she soon regained all her confidence and finished the course well. What would of been 6th place turned into 14th with 80 time penalties as they didn't stop the clock when we had to wait for the doctor. Nevertheless I was very pleased with a double clear from Lady at her first event as we both live to fight another day!
Candy was the star of the show again with another double clear from her in the BE100 open. She flew round making it feel easy and confirming it should be moving up to Novice level again very soon! She was bang on the optimum time as well so with nothing to add she finished in 3rd place.
My other half believe it or not managed to get my fall on camera, talk about being in the right place and right time for once! See video below..
Next event is Stafford BE100 plus for Candy and BE90 with Lady.
