On the run up to Norton Disney RF, she had 2 other finals to attend. At Vale View the Arena eventing champs she finished 8th in the Intermediate, and 10th despite picking up 4 faults, which she would have won without as was spot on the optimum... typical! Still a good day had and that set us up nicely for the Eventer Trial champs at Osberton. This was held over the 5yo championship course, something I have always wanted to jump around. Although Annie didn't manage it as a 5yo she flew round a year later picking up 3rd place which we were delighted with.
As we warmed up for XC the sun had begun to come out, it was very low and made it hard for riders and horses to focus on the fences. The one before me had a nasty fall at fence 3 and I must admit I had a terrible jump at it as well. We recovered and cantered onto fence 5 again in the same direction, the sun had created a shadow across the fence and Annie decided to spook at this strides out before, I should of reacted quicker and taken the alternative but I didn't and that was it 20 pens added and our Badminton dreams over for this year!
It was hard to not feel disappointed after last time missing out by 1 place, and again it being in our sights, but that's how it goes and now I have got to decide whether to hold her back at 100 for another year or move her up to Novice! Decisions decisions!!
