There were placings for Teams, Individuals, and overall. The dressage arenas all took averages which altered some peoples score if your arena was marking harsher than others. This lowered my score to 29.5 which I was jumping for joy about and left us in the top 20 overall! I was most looking forward to Saturday which would be both of ours first go at road and tracks and steeplechases. I had worked out a fitness plan prior to this event to make sure Lady had enough oomph left for the XC. She loved the road & tracks and flew round the steeplechase with lots of time to spare. As we went to the start box for XC after being checked off by the vet, thunder and lightening struck and the heavens opened. I was so gutted the sky was black and the horses were really on edge. We thought they would hold the XC for a few minutes until the worst had past, but they only decided to do this for the SJ much to our dismay.
Lady went out the start box good as gold and jumped the first few cautiously with the ground on uneven terrain and with it soon becoming extremely slippy on top. I could barely see or hold her together with the reins just slipping through my hands. As we jumped into the water boldly a big bang of thunder accompanied us and I didn't quite get my reins gathered up in time to steer her to the fence in the water. A gutting 20 pens was picked up but we went straight back round and she jumped it no problems after I had all my knitting together! We continued and she jumped the rest of the course fab considering she had also lost a shoe! We decided to withdraw SJ and save her for another day.
