I've never been great at Quarter marks, mainly because you can never practise them on a coloured or grey horse. Now having 2 lovely bays I thought I better pull my finger out! Here are a few different patterns created using combs of different sizes, body brushes and good old water!
Yesterday we trucked to Moreton Morrell for the Novice. I went to this event last year and really enjoyed it. The show jumping is always a true test of the level built on a lovely surface and the cross country is bold but very inviting and has suited my horses well.
Lady warmed up a little tense, mainly because the dressage is so close to the cross country action but its always a good test to see how well your horse copes with distractions for future bigger events. She started to settle and went it to perform a nice test. It was the most accurate she has done and we finally mastered getting a halt at the beginning of the test even though it was a quick one and if you blinked you would of missed it! It shows how much she is coming on and learning as the last halt was really nice. We tried to show some mediums but I never push it with her being young and a big horse, its more important to keep her balance and confidence at this stage. I no myself it felt a lot better and was going in the right direction the judge put encouraging comments so lots more pure dressage has been booked in for Lady!
As we went to do our show jump round which had been causing lots of problems all day I started to feel a little nervous! Luckily Lady took a few jumps into her own hands and helped me out big time just coming down short on a back rail to pick up 4 faults. I pretty sure this horse can see a better stride then I can!!
The cross country was lovely and I was really looking forward to getting out my saddle and just enjoying the ride. There was nothing too technical and the course aloud you to keep riding forwards with lots of beefy up to height fences which needed some positive riding. Lady was like an old timer going round, jumping everything boldly and straight. There was nothing she looked at or disliked and was just 2 seconds over the optimum. Watch the HEDCAMZ video below to see how fab she really was! Her ears say it all.
So 2 out of 3 phases getting there just the 1 to concentrate on!
